The Music Room

A lifelong musician, Ann has studied and played piano and sung with choral groups large and small. As a member and Elder of First Presbyterian Church, she sang with the chancel choir and sextet for many years and currently plays with the Handbell Choir. She was instrumental in starting the church's annual Scottish Heritage Service and Celebration in 1992, which in 2001, grew into the Scottish Festival & Celtic Gathering, held annually in Bridgeport and Clarksburg - a weekend of Scottish music, dancing, exhibits, games and activities.

She has played the Great Highland Bagpipe for 15 years, having been taught by Thomas McLaughlin of Elkins, a former Pipe Major of the West Virginia Highlander band and a member of the Kanawha Valley Pipes and Drums in Charleston. She also has studied with John MacDougall and Michael Cusack, both world renowned pipers, at Balmoral School of Highland Piping, and with Pipe Major Sandy Jones, Ed Neigh, Gregg Abbott, Bill Caudhill and Brian Yates at the North American Academy of Piping and Drumming. In addition, she plays the Scottish Smallpipes, and has studied with George Balderose at the Balmoral School of Piping. She plays for weddings, funerals, church services, celebrations and special events throughout the Central West Virginia area. And she's a member and Pipe Sergeant of the Pipes and Drums of St. Andrew bagpipe band which is based in Parkersburg.

Pipes & Drums of St. Andrew

One of Ann's dogs is musically inspired and sings when she plays the bagpipe. He has joined her in several performances and has brought the house down. Ann's two major interests were also merged when she piped in the Parade of Veterans, distinguished older Shelties from all over the country, at the ASSA's National Specialty Show in Virginia Beach, VA.
